To overnight on this beautiful farm is an unforgettable experience. The lodge is surrounded by mountains, which together with the exotic plants of the Klein Karoo create a quiet serene atmosphere. The gardens and lawns, growing in the fertile red clay ground of this valley are a feast for the eye; a huge bonus for the tired tourist. Many a tourist has told the owners Boy and Marianne that they will never go to heaven, because they re already living in paradise! The Grobbelaars river meanders through the farm and seldom runs dry. Beautiful willow trees grow on the banks, and together with the mountains nestling around you, this tranquil picture promotes the peaceful atmosphere of this luscious valley. This beautiful Lodge and ostrich farm is situated in Schoemanspoort and is totally surrounded by mountains. The willow trees and river give a peaceful atmosphere and is food for the soul. If you like nature, De Oude Meul is the place to be! Our a la carté restaurant specialises in venison & ostrich will give you an unforgettable meat experience. Come and taste the best of the ostrich at very reasonable prices. We also tender for bus groups. 4x4 Trips up the mountain. Have you ever been in a 4x4 climbing a mountain? Do not miss out such an adventure, you will be surprise to see what these vehicles can do. On these trips you will see elephant foot plants more than a thousand years old, aloes more than 200 years old and numerous other succulents and plants used by previous generations and bushman as medicine. These trips in a 4x4 cost R 600 (up to four people) for a two hour drive. It must be booked in advance to avoid disappointment. Hiking: Two wonderful routes to view succulents. Two hours are needed for this walk up the mountain, which is not so easy. Accommodation We have 40 air-conditioned rooms. The rooms are comfortably furnished with a fan, clock-radio, coffee and tea facilities and a bathroom with a shower. Every room is equipped with twin beds, but we have queen-size beds on request. Each room has a verandah with a table and chairs where guests can relax and enjoy nature and the animals. People are not allowed to smoke in the rooms, only outside on the verandah. We have four family rooms, consisting of two rooms with a bathroom. We have one luxury room with a queen size bed and DSTV. The other unit with DSTV is a flat with a kitchen and a living room for people who want to stay for longer periods. There is also a couch for children to sleep on. Restaurant Open every day with specials. Opening hours: 11:00 - 15:30 & 17:30 - 23:00 WE SPECIALISE IN VENISON DISHES The restaurant is surrounded by mountains and a free flowing river, therefore it creates a relaxing yet romantic atmosphere. Wild game wanders around on the premises and can be touched or fed from the deck. Seun, the Kudu, will come and look for some attention and bread, and Big Boy the Eland is very jealous. Always want to chase Seun away to get all the attention. The restaurant tenders for meals for private guests and tour groups over lunch and dinner. Buffet or a la carte. For these people a farm stop is also a very special experience. Some of the best local wines are sold here.
