DescriptionWelcome to De Opstal Country Lodge in the picturesque Schoemanshoek Valley. De Opstal is just 12 km from Oudtshoorn on the main road (R328) to the world famous Cango Caves. It is also within easy reach of tourist attractions such as the Cango Wildlife Ranch and the Cango Ostrich Show Farm. WHY STAY AT DE OPSTAL? Relive the past in the luxury of the present. De Opstal Country Lodge is the best choice for your stay in the county side of Oudtshoorn. HISTORY The Schoemanshoek Valley, in which De Opstal Country Lodge is set, is named after Matilda de Bod’s family. For generations the Schoeman family farmed tobacco, fruit, vegetables and ostriches in this fertile valley. Matilda is the eighth generation Schoeman living in the valley. GENERAL The Lodge consists of a group of typical Little Karoo farm buildings, beautifully restored and fitted with modern conveniences, set in a lush, beautifully maintained garden. The complex has a salt water swimming pool and a rustic restaurant where traditional breakfasts and hearty farm–style dinners are served. We offer hiking trails, under roof parking and a free car wash. Added to all this, we offer the best personal attention by the owners & staff. The entire complex has an old world ambience with subtle modern touches which ensure a luxurious stay. Restaurant BREAKFAST Hearty farm style breakfasts are served in the spacious restaurant, which is also decorated in a style similar to the rest of the complex. There is a bar area for pre–dinner relaxing. CUISINE Enjoy our famous cuisine in the restaurant. De Opstal offers a relaxing atmosphere in our lounge and bar area. Enjoy your favourite drink and discuss the day’s happening in the comfort of our ostrich–covered lounge suite. DINNER Dinner consists of a buffet prepared from ostrich and regional ingredients. We are also prepared to supply guests with picnic lunches on request. Accommodation The beautiful farm house, stables and milking parlour date back to 1830. All the buildings in the complex have been creatively converted into modern, quaint en suite bedrooms with the retention of an atmosphere of rustic charm. The terracotta floors, heavy wooden doors and shutters and wide timber ceilings bear the scars, buckles and blemishes of generations of use and give the entire complex an authentic feel. In this relaxed atmosphere Albertus, Matilda & Staff treat their guests to wholesome country hospitality and food, reminiscent of the bygone era of the 1800’s.
